General will instruct the
Commanding Royal Engineer to take immediate
steps for the repair of the field officers' Quarters, or the officers quarters without competent authority.
Regarding your 7th Paragraph, I am
directed to state,
the Major
General considers
the
only
the
Detachments at Stanley and Saiwan are
necessary
in a
Civil point of view, and for
protection of Ordnance property at those places.
They
are a
drain on the Garrison of Victoria,
and would be totally untenable in case
of attack by the
superior forces, as they can be turned from neighbouring bays on both flanks of each, and their
Communication with Head Quarters easily cut off.
